Brisbane CIR (Daisen City, Akita, 2008-) Blake Baguley has won the coveted top prize in the English division of the 7th Shizuoka International Japanese Translation Competition.
The results were announced on July 18.
Held every two years, the competition requires two lengthy and difficult Japanese short stories and essays to be translated into either English or two other languages. Blake, 23, beat out 78 people from 13 countries in his division to take the top prize. He is also the first Australian to win the competition.
